Default On my morning walk

I managed to catch Mr. or Mrs. Spider still at home in this pretty cool web...

Spend a lot of time in the woods and this year has been a big spider year. In SC we are seeing quite the population of Joro Spiders. When coursing the forest it's best to lead with a trekking pole or long branch to clear the path.

A few years ago a large plantation near me clear-cut a pine plantation. Before it was re-planted in improved loblollys I passed it one early morning after a heavy dew. The sun was just cracking the horizon and I was looking across the clear cut into the sunrise. There were tens of thousands of small spider webs, dew covered and backlit by the sunrise. It was so beautiful I had to catch my breath.

Then again, when you're walking through the woods looking up into the treetops for squirrels, and you walk square into a big Joro spiderweb and then feel "him" crawling on the back of your neck, the beauty is hard to recognize. But, a video of what happens next would be interesting!
