Relaxing Wednesday afteroon
I took my little 2wt rod out yesterday to see if the bluegills had woken up yet. For the purists, sorry, not bamboo, but 7' and an ounce and three-quarters of Winston IM6 graphite. They hadn't, at least not in the first place I tried, a spot I call Jessie's because it's just sround the corner from my daughter's house. Spent a couple hours there with only a dunk or two and nary a nibble. I hated to get skunked so I wheeled around to Caywood Lake. Found them much more cooperative there; several gills - no trophies but nice fat 8-9-inchers, and a few small bass. Released all. I left my bag in the truck, including my forceps so when the last gill ate my fly I had to bite him off and called it a day.

Phil, nice rod. I fished in my pond yesterday with my Phillipson Pacemaker and a Saracione reel trying to grab a bass or two, but the water is still only 50 degrees. Took a bluegill and my streamer was bigger than he.
I'm not a terribly big John Gierach fan, but his book from 1996 "Fishing Bamboo" is a dangerous quick read. I rarely read a book twice, I've read this 3-4 times and after each one I am on the Spinoza web site shopping for a Leonard, Gillum or Garrison. I have not written the check yet, not sure I ever will, but that book sure makes we want to. Tight lines.
