Thank you for all the info. You are right, I rechecked the notes and he did write its a 12 gauge. The serial number is 60187

Thanks Dawn. I can give you the following info from the serial number.
This gun was made in 1890.
It is listed as a D2 grade hammerless shotgun having damascus 30 inch barrels,
a capped pistol grip, and is indeed a 12ga.
Pictures could tell us a bit more, like the frame size.
There is factory information on this gun with PGCA that can be ordered at the home page of this site. It will cost, but if you join the PGCA you can order the letter for $40.00 I cannot say for sure what the letter will say other than what we already know but it could tell you who the gun was ordered by and the date it shipped.
