Gotta ask, what was the point of the photo of Jack shooting a Winchester Model 71 in a quail hunting article?

Probably took it along as a backup in case of a close range wild peccary charge deep in the cholla arroyos. Nothing like a .348 Silvertip to change their minds!

In the October 1965, Outdoor Life, Jack penned an article on the 20-gauge, with this better quail picture --

Outdoor Life, September 1965, picture pg 68.jpg

In the 1965 article he describes getting that 30-inch modified and full 20-gauge and states it was an L.C. Smith ejector gun.

Outdoor Life, September 1965, pg 72 quote 1.jpg

He then goes on to discuss his quail and duck shooting with it and even killing a turkey with it. He then states he did some of his best 20-gauge shooting with it.

Outdoor Life, September 1965, pg 72 quote 2.jpg

Then goes on to say it was an all-wrong freak and spends the rest of the article extolling the virtues of his 26-inch barrel Model 21s!?!

I found a couple of boxes of 1950s to 70s Outdoor Life when cleaning out the house where I grew up. I thumbed through all of them and then put all but this issue out at the gun club where other geezers snapped them up.
