I may be wrong but, I believe it was the earlier small gauge guns that had the cracking problem. Supposedly, after several of these came to light, Ithaca made the frames a little beefier. I have a 20 ga. with 28" twist barrels made in 1910 that is really pretty light. The underside of the barrels are stamped "Nitro Powder Proved". So far the only shells I've fired in it have been Gamebore 24 gram (less than 7/8 oz) black powder shells; it's been good so far.
