Parker Stock w/cheek piece?

The Grade 4 gun I purchased in November had it's straight grip stock replaced with a PG stock in 1917, according to Parker letter.
I also have aquired the original stock.This stock is numbered to the gun as well.It has a cheek piece inletted into the right side of the stock.There is no mention of this in the letter.This gun was ordered without a safety and with 32" barrels.Did Parker put these cheek pieces on the stocks if requested??

Bill, that is an interesting question. I am aware of Parker factory produced stocks with cheek pieces where the cheek piece is integral with the stock.....made at the same time and not added later. I have never seen a factory stock where the cheek piece was added later, such as inletted and glued in. Not to say it couldn't happen, but I would be suspicious that it was not of factory origin.

Sounds like a trap gun and you know how those trap shooters could not stop fiddling with a gun, and their belief that if only they could make one more change to the gun, it would shoot perfectly.

I believe Elmer Keith's BHE had a cheekpiece along with a monte carlo.

Both gun and original stock up at DelGregos right now getting checked out.I will send pics out of gun and original stock when gun is returned.Gun had broken ejectors..

Sounds interesting. I saw one where a leather cheek piece had been inletted into the stock. We don't think its factory but it is very well done.
Del Grego's will do an excellent job on the ejector issue.

I have owned two BHE Parkers with orgininal checkered cheeks on the stock for a right hand shooter . Both were right as rain !!!

Sure , but the issue is as I understand the question, not whether Parker did cheek pieces, because they certainly did, but whether Parker inletted and added in cheek pieces to a buttstock. At least that's what I understand the question to be. Correct?

There certainly are correct guns with Monte Carlo combs and cheek pieces. No issue about that. The couple I have seen the cheek piece was the same wood as the stock, not added.

I have a picture somewhere of an AA sbt with an original cheekpiece stock. Jim Austin bought it in the early 70's. Gun was nearly brand new and unaltered.

A shooting buddy has a wonderful 2-bbl. set that has (of all things!) a cork cheekpiece that looked so right that we decided it couldn't be wrong. I carried it up to Babe's on one of my many "mystery tours" to the Mohawk Valley and we sat down and spent time with the gun. Bob Runge blew in while we were looking at it and said, "Oh, no! Not another one of those things!" He said he always was fascinated by them because you could attach notes to them with stick pins if need be while you worked on the gun. Both of them agreed it was factory original work.

A couple years ago on Gunbroker there was a 20 gauge DHE with a raised cheekpiece. Very cool gun that needed some restoration. It sat there for awhile while people made up their minds about orginality. I recall the seller being from California and it ended up selling for about 8k.
