1892 BH 16ga
This gun was briefly discussed in the thread about the Pachmayr Upgrade but didn't get a lot of attention. A member took the time to inspect it in great detail, including measurements and photos. I think many viewed it as a rebarreled gun, first, but I was using my pragmatic approach and viewed it as an original 16ga. Damascus, with an additional set of aftermarket 20ga barrels.
Built on a 1 frame, a slight departure from my apparent habit of buying 0 frame guns, it weighs a modest 6 pounds, 13 oz with the very high quality Joseph Just (Ferlach) barrels. The 28 1/2" barrels were Proofed for 3". This was done in 1963, according to the Austrian Proof house, and the gun was restored in a non traditional French Grey finish. The Just Barrel top rib is nearly identical to Parker matting.
The original 30" 16ga. Damascus barrels were preserved and will take some modest work. They fit within a few thous of closing because the joint roll was replaced when the 20ga. barrels were fitted. The bolt just begins to engage, so I am confident it will take minimal work to the hook to bring it back down.
I don't typically buy at auction, but Redding is an excellent house and one couldn't possibly ask for better service and packing.
