I would say not all laws are for all people probably more so back then it would be easier to get by with not being perfectly inline with the regulations. Could probably look at the letter and see where it was ordered or by who, especially in rural areas its more about who you know. I remember reading about a 10 ga magnum Parker built on a 6 frame many many years after the 8 ga was outlawed for waterfowl, I reckon they had at least a few extra 6 frames laying around that they could use even after the 1918 ban.

I think it probably has alot to do with barrel profile as well, My 6 frame 10 gauge barrels taper down to the muzzle about the same as my 3 frame so they have quite a bit of sweep to them I think makes them look short.

Some years ago I restored a 40” 8g for Daryl Middlebrook. It was a few years before he passed. It was an NH made in 1899. The barrels actually were 40.5” long. And the rib was unmatted, and the assumption was that the matting machine would not handle the 40” length. So I am curious if any of these 3 guns are matted or not.?

That gun was a beast. The barrels alone were 12.5 lbs and the gun total was 16 lbs.

boy I sure made a big mistake in the length of those barrels....are there any parker barrels longer than 40 inches...I don't.........I read on the 8 ga that it had 3 1/2 inch chambers that's the first for me there usally 3 1/4 inch.....if I had ordered this gun it would have had 4 1/4 inch chambers and another one just like it for bill murphy.....charlie

40” was the longest length that Parker made.

While the "standard" 8-gauge shell was 3 1/4-inch, UMC. and Winchester offered 8-gauge NPEs up to 4-inch.
