Actions like this are not good for the public’s perception of hunting (and in many places are illegal as this case presented). You also have to wonder about his taking a photo, saying to a stranger that he shot the cat, and supplying the photo as evidence — not smart.

I hate free roaming cats as much as anyone for the billions (yes, with a “B”) of birds and other critters they wantonly kill in a year, but this guy’s actions are not the best way to deal with the problem.

I looked at the law in this case and it also protects feral cats. I don't understand why cats shouldn't have the same requirements as dogs and be vaccinated and require a license as well as it must be on the animal. Feral cats are a nuisance as you say and to give small game predators protection is crazy. My uncles has two English setters that would tag team every cat they found. One chased while the other waited for it to come by and the problem was solved.
