As I recall some smiths use toilet bowl cleaner and a cotton cloth to remove case colors. Pretty easy to take off a bit at a time. I have used Flitz and it will remove case colors in a heart beat, so unless you really want to remove them completely go at it slow. PS. I had a friend who had a little tarnish spot on a Merkel 47E. Used Flitz paste and a cotton cloth and it ten minutes while he was watching tv he had removed all case colors on one side. Ended up taking them all off because he had no choice at that point. French Grey it was.
