On the flip side of the coin I have several doubles that are stored continuously in oak and leather, or leg-of-mutton cases, without any ill effects. They are carefully cleaned and wiped down before putting them in the cases, and there's never been an inkling of a problem.

My MX-8 has never spent the night anyplace besides it's leather covered, felt lined case, at least for the 15+ years I've owned it.

Place a gun in one of the above after it's lining has been exposed to moisture, however, and be ready for rusting. FWIW, I feel cases need to be cared for, especially the inside, just like the guns do. Leaving a case open overnight, in a warm, dry place, is a good idea as Dean suggested, if it there's any question that the lining may have been exposed to moisture.

JME, YMMV
