My Dad used to listen to Paul Harvey every day at lunch and many of Mr. Harvey’s stories ended with a significant twist. I actually FaceTimed the guy selling the gun for his friend who has ALS. The guy selling for his friend said he was a preacher and the reason he was helping to sell the gun was that he and his friend had taken the gun to a pawnbroker who told them the gun was a piece of junk not shootable and offered them $400. The “preacher” persuaded his friend to hold off and so they tried gun broker. The original photos were taken by the owner who obviously was not good at it. I was interested in the gun because of the frame size and straight grip stock. When the preacher posted he would do a virtual inspection I requested one. He FaceTimed me within the hour. I go a good look at the gun, had him ring the barrels, and verified the frame size. He seemed to be legitimate so after our call I looked the gun up in the serialization book and it matched. I am a glutton for punishment so I bid to get things going. My bid was $1400 which was probably more than the gun was worth as a shooter. After bidding I called the guy and told him about my bid and that the gun was not an antique. I also told him I hoped I got outbid because I really did not need any more shooters. I also told him there may be a bidding war and thought the gun may go for around $2000. He thanked me and said he hopes I won the bid. The gun sold for $1926. No one ever knows the truth but I sure hope this guy is blessed as he helps his elderly friend through some difficult times. And that is the rest of the story.
