Can you turn the screws? This is a wild guess....but maybe to put some tension on the shells so when the action is open they don't fall out? You might have to set them differently for different brands of shells.

I recently saw on one of the bird hunting shows that CZ magnetizes their chambers now so shells don't fall out when the action is open.

Again just a guess...

This would be a cool feature when hunting out of a pit or layout blind. Always tough to break the gun without losing the shells when in the position.
