What if you never paid attention before, you have a gun with no references to the owners or PGCA records. My gun just has the three equal size initials. What comes first ,the chicken or the egg ??
I agree if one of the letters is larger& in the middle---most likely the family name.

I assumed you did not have an example - but I mention it because I bet more than one member does - so we just need them to share
