Dean - I have taken P/Ws apart and successfully put them back together. It is a big job to take them down completely and re-assemble/adjust. I would try not to disassemble more then necessary. Can you jiggle the handle and try to figure out where it is jammed. Failing to do that, I would take the shot/powder hopper off and look at the rack and circular gears. Shot could have gotten in there and caused the mechanism to lock up. The next thing I would look at is if something blocking the crossbar from moving.
