Hello Buddy: You have a real piece of family history. I would have it mounted over your fireplace and tell that story to all who come to visit you. To anyone else, chances are, it's not worth a lot. But to you IT'S PRICELESS! Thanks for sharing your story.

Best Regards, George

Default Yanks in the Cajun Bayou? Huumm

IMO only, as a passingly interested student of the late war of Northern Aggression- Lincoln had some real dip-stick Field Commanders- Gen. Hooker stands out- and the political appointee who was made a brigader Gen. overnight with NO West Point background and made several tactical Fubars near Little Round top at Gettysburg-- BUT, even old "Zippo Raider" Wm. T. Sherman with his infamous march that ended in Savannah would have known better to send a patrol into the Louisiana swamps and bayous-

Look at how many ATF enforcement yo-yos disappeared in those swampy bogs with no bottom during and after Prohibition-- No siree, I do not believe that story Suh- Yo great great grandpappy didn't have to shoot any Damn Yankees down there- the gators, skeeters, chiggers and snakes would have done any Yank patrol in- in a heartbeat-

My pals than went into Army Ranger program during the Vietnam era- did their pre-'Nam jungle training at Ft. Polk in the Pelican State- and it warn't no cake walk- neither was the RECONDO program set up "in Country"--

I agree with George- great story, great wallhanger, great family history indeed, and being a Grandpa my own self (with another grandchild due in Feb 2011) I love to tell a few tall tales to my "come-afters" on occasion- So enjoy, and relish the thought that NO Union forces ever conquered Cajun Country- They messed up New Orleans fairly well, but that was another story for another time and tellin'--
