Guess it depends on how you see a 16, light 12 or a heavy 20. For targets 3/4 is easier on the stock and plenty of shot in a tight choked gun to break clay clay targets at moderate distances . Birds another thing You need to kill clean.

Other day patterned my Berretta O/U with Lt Mod tubes that usually runs 1 oz Factory 1200 fps with 7/8 oz 1150 fps 12 G reloads intended for Parkers. Looking at the paper can't see any reason to use 1 oz over 7/8 to 35 yards. Longer 1 oz and Modfied choke tubes better for sure.

The DR 16 is perfect for 7/8 in 2 3/4 hulls. Bit long for 7/8 in 2 1/2
