The primary bolting on these guns is done with the underbites. The cross bolt is simply a "failsafe" and does not really do any sort of bolting when speaking of making sure a gun is tight.
The cross bolt cams on the top lever. Removal of it requires disassembly of the whole bolting system pretty much.
It is odd that it has some slack in it. You would not think here to be that much wear on that area. If it were to be repaired, it would likely need metal added and re-fitted, unless there is serious damage done to the part.
