While fiddling with my Trojan forend this morning I found that by sliding a plastic card under the forend and pushing it down to the forend loop it releases with only a gentle pull. I started by using the corner of the card then once started turned it sideways. I used an old hotel room card because it may deform the card a little. It will not damage either metal or wood. Super simple!
