More than a few men were drowned/killed by those punt guns. According to my readings, the guns generally held together, but the mounting of the gun in the boat was an inexact science at best. Recoil would blow out the transom, or, if the gunner attempted to secure the gun with lines tied to the gunwales, could collapse the sides. Not a game for the faint of heart
