Thank you for the kind words gentlemen, pup is a real looker and he seems to have the timeless beauty of a traditional point down pretty good sometimes.
Last year was his first trip to SD & on truly wild Pheasants (mine too)..although he blew up a few times while surrounded by about a hundred birds, I have high hopes for him this yr.
I swear on October 1 this yr he was a different dog then the night before with just a certain itch about him - gotta’ love a bird dog!
He did well last yr and we did not lose a single bird taken so that's saying something, actually..that says a lot. I would encourage anybody who has never taken a trip w/a young dog to do so..lay back and let the dog show you how b/c watching them figure out what it takes is a very very beautiful & rewarding thing. Being kin to my original Shorthair going back some 20+ yrs..a young dog sure goes a long way toward easing the pain of dogs past somehow. Guess it’s just notion of a man but I swear it’s as though the dog hunts for the whole lot of you both present and past, like they are all there somehow..good stuff.
I’m sorry you lost your dog Dave.
Anyhow, here’s the brace of 16’s that will do the bidding & I’m thrilled to have a 16ga Parker in the mix..a fine Merkel and a new to me Parker Reproduction along with a spare set of 20ga bbls for the times that non-tox is required. (Have a couple boxes of Tungsten Matrix 20ga - expensive but potent stuff)
Good luck in ND Jeff..we just might take a ride North across the border also..just because..
Keep the roster going and please update with reports..pics don't hurt either!
Everyone stay safe and shoot straight
