Photos for Pineridge Grouse Camp Thread

Last week I posted a thread about spending a few days at Pineridge Grouse Camp in northern Minnesota. I tried to post photos and could not, probably because I was trying to do it all on my cell phone and I had a weak signal, despite trying several times. Anyway, here are the photos I was trying to post but now I can't find the thread.

Pineridge Grouse Camp is very much a Parker place, the Havels own it and are long time Parker life members and shooters. They are acquiring the Elhew pointer line and are starting to offer trained dogs. Here are a few photos taken from the Woodcock Banding weekend and then of some puppy training.

A woman photographer Hannah, will be around some this fall to take high quality photos of guests dogs and guns. Here are some of Holly's drawings, which I think are special.

I heard grouse drumming on each of my daily walks with the dogs. A timber wolf was spotted nosing around the edge of the camp. A pack of 29, the largest known pack, resides in the several county area.

And finally, can't pass up the famous Woody Burger at Woodman's Café in town. Triple the setter and Bert the young pointer got their ice cream pup cups next door.

Bruce, have they had any problems with the wolves and the bird dogs?

No, but there is wariness. Particularly when wolves have pups in the spring, there is increased risk. I carried a sidearm when I ran mine deep into the woods where wolves had been seen the previous night.

They are sweet and lovable dogs. Mine go with me everywhere.

Bruce, I was hunting my female Betty( the one in my avatar), when she was in heat in a large cut we call the Big Wheel, in the UP. A pack of wolves were obviously attracted to her and were circling about and howling around us in the cut--I fired 2 shots in the air, and got a leash on her and got out of the cut. Have seen wolves numerous times in the UP, but no otherproblems with them. locally, my friend was running his 8 mo setter pup in his hay fields( I have a littermate,Fancy), the pup started yipping and 2 coyotes were chasing it--Mike emptied his 357 mag at them and scared them off

There is a report of a rabbit hunter training his pack of 10 beagles in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and the wolves got 9 of the 10

yes, that hunter was from Ohio. Personally , I would not hesitate to unload both barrels if necessary to save the life of one of my dogs---and I know you all would do the same. The old adge of Shoot/Shovel/Shut-up applies here
