Here in South Texas we have 2 different "tree ducks", black bellied and fulvous. I have a pair of black bellied tree ducks that nest in a hole in one of our live oak trees. They, or some pair, have nested here for at least 15 years.
They whistle, I have never heard them quack. In the nest they are very quiet. They do whistle when approaching "their" tree. They love acorns like a woodie
The nearest water is over a mile away, strangely enough.
Neat ducks.
