Nice. Looks like the splice line likely matches a checkering valley line.

Yessir ,that's the way its done ...I always try to follow the checkering borders as well ,best way to hide it .

I would give my best left thing ,to have an hour or two with that man ....Uncle so and so down the harbor is good for a yarn,but can't come close with that old pocket knife
