Default A Double Today

I opened the mailbox and received my Parker Pages and my Doubles Club pin which I earned shooting quail on a recent hunt. A great surprise to come home to and this edition has really raised the bar! Good job to the editor and staff.

Congratulation's on the Double pin. I have tried to shoot a double on Mearns quail with a Parker for 7 years with no success. I shot a double this year but I had unfortunately taken my RBL and my GH 20 gauge that day.
I just so happen that when I shot the double it was with the RBL. I was excited that I had finally got by Double pin until I looked back down and realized that when I had gone back to the truck to switch dogs, I had also switched guns. Oh well there is next year.

I would have the only double on groundhogs, but I was not shooting a Parker at the time. My double on groundhogs was with a very minty 1889 Remington ten gauge fluid steel gun that I still own. I didn't know it was going to be a double until the first chuck fell and exposed one standing behind him. This feat was accomplished on a skeet field of my Izaak Walton League. I spied the hog while shooting a round of skeet with the Remington. It was a thirty yard shot at most, the longest shot that should be taken at a groundhog, even with a ten. The load was 1 5/8 ounces of lead #4 in Winchester Super-X paper shells.
