Safety Help

New to me 12-ga.
The safety will not move from the safe position.
Is this something I can address or is it off to a Parker savvy gunsmith for a clean? Gun appears unfired or very very little. Was stored in case since new and has a few minor spots leading me to believe high humidity environment.
A good schematic and I'm not bashful about a teardown and clean. I do not have one yet but will search for one. Any help and/or suggestions is much appreciated.

Hi Your gun safety may have rusted up if it was stored in a damp area. But it may also have frozen up due to not being used form cosmoline ,a metal protector from the factory. All this can be cleaned up by a good Smith. I recommend Clay Target Sports in Princeton,NJ. I don't have the number but Chris Maest is on the internet. Hope this helps

Kirby, had the same issue with a new, unfired Repro a few years ago. Richard is correct about the cosmoline, It can become glue like with age.
I took the buttstock off and sprayed a degreaser on the mechanism. Wiped it down and cleared up any gunk. Dried it out and put a light amount of oil on the moving parts and contact points. Problem solved.

Does anyone have a smith in northern Indiana or southern Michigan
who has Parker experience? I'd love to be within driving distance for delivery and possibly wait for clean and oil. (Pipedream with most "good" gunsmiths workload and backlog.) -KL

Kirby,

I bought an unused 28ga and the safety wouldn't budge. I put a drop of penetrating on the safety and let it soak overnight. The safety worked fine after this.

If I hunt in the rain with my Repro28 the safety binds up badly. When it dries out it works fine again. Go figure. It needs some wood or metal somewhere relieved a bit I think.

Hi Richard, I think the safety rod that slides back and forth in a wood tunnel for lack of a better word is getting stuck and the wood swells up form being wet. We used Chris Maest in Princeton for this kind of work. He is at 609-921-9358. He owns Clay Target Sports.
