Rich,

Just a couple things to make the story a little more realistic. You don't shoot pigeons from a "station", in this case it would be called simply the 33 yard mark. Also the phrase "25 bird rises" isn't something you'd hear. It would be a 25 bird match or 25 bird race, the rise is the distance in which the bird comes out of the trap.

Also when you mention that he hadn't needed the 2nd shell, that would be incorrect as well. If he'd not fired his 2nd shell and walked off the mark he would have been disqualified. Even if your bird is dead in the ring you have to fire your 2nd shell before stepping off or calling for your next bird. It's a safety rule that harks back to muzzle loading days where guns where a lot harder to unload but is still in effect at pigeon matches even today.

And the word "pulverised" makes it sound more like he's shooting clay pigeons rather than live. The word simply killed would probably be more fitting. Otherwise an interesting story, I enjoyed reading it.

Regards,
Destry

"Grassed" was a popular term for cleanly killing a bird
