With regard to the old phones, my grandmother was the town clerk of Ischua, NY when I was about 5 years old. As I recall she had the first phone in town and it was an old hand crank phone. It was made of oak and was beautiful. I wish I had it now. We did have a party line and our ring was 2 longs and a short as I recall. Now we get bird chirps for rings. Life was better in the 50's in many ways.
