Garry, 3 1/2 flushes per hour is great, and you have to do some legwork for that. I averaged 4/hr--not including woodcock. My shooting percentage was not as good as yours, but I shoot alot. I like/do well in older clearcuts, and the shooting is generally a little easier. Found an old cut last Saturday with the logging road grown up waist high in grass and berry cane. Shot 3 birds over Doodle in less than an hour. I am still exhausted from 16 straight long days in the woods, but if the weather holds out will try to go back after their deer season.

I sure miss the "good ol days" of just 8-10 years ago when my flush rate (without a dog) was usually about 12/hr in the morning and 10/hr in the afternoon... and they didn't flush so far out as they do when their numbers are severely down these last few years.

I had an interesting experience yesterday. While out grouse hunting I came through a clearcut to the edge when an archery hunter up in a tree let me know he was there. I apologized for interrupting his hunt and told him I'd move out of the area. He replied "No problem, we are both hunting and I enjoyed watching your dog work". You meet some of the best folks in the woods.

thats really special gary, most of the bowhunters around here are pretty cordial. If we see a stand any time during the year, I try to stay out of those areas when bow season starts.
