Actually it was $3834 and I can not figure out why George did that, unless he didn't have a clue in what he had.
Tommy listed it as a true auction also by leaving it up to the highest bidder to put today's price on it, instead of a reserve auction.

The pitted barrels became quite shiny between owners. I bid on it not knowing that it was George's old gun. I'm a little disappointed I didn't check on its provenance before the auction ended. OK, who got it?

Bill - the barrels had a very poor blue job. Whoever did it blued the whole thing, did not even remove the ejectors. From the pictures it had that suspicious sheen of hot blueing. At the price George sold it the ribs could be relaid and you'd still have been money good, and I think he knew what he had. I recognized the gun and knew about how much Mr. Tommyguns paid for it so I did not bid it up. He was not going to bust his margin on me; still, an interesting piece.

I would be the winning bidder... I am hoping the gun comes in as advertised. The barrels certainly look to have been redone but I see no evidence of the tell tale holes in the bottom rib that indicate a hot blue job. Engraving at the breech end and top rib lettering also look good and not buffed out. Realizing that there just aren't that many DHE's with a safety delete option especially from the pre trap gun era, I thought I'd take a chance on it. I believe that there is a letter available and it will be an interesting one to read.

Someone else's cost many times has little to do with actual value, and priced at about what a nice used Repro 12 guage is going for I am certainly OK with my final bid price if the gun is as advertised. I will keeep you updated when it is in my hands.

Jared I don't think you paid too much, George may have had it priced too low though.

Like you, I haven't had my hands on the gun.
