I'm told Nitre blue will likely reveal the weld as I believe carbona blue would as well. Also, hot salt blue will reveal the weld almost for sure. Rust blue will hide the weld pretty well from my experience.
If there's a replica guard available, that would be the best way to go if original finishing is going to be used.
I believe you'll have good blue match with a piece of mild steel (SAE 1018 or 1020)
