if i were to covert a pistol grip trigger guard to a str. grip what kind of steel would i need to make the bluing match from old to new. i would weld on the new long piece to an old guard i have. thanks scott

I would think that the original type of nitre blue process would match things up fairly well.

The other option would be to buy one of the Parker straight grip guards that Galazans is carrying now. Then you don't have to match any steels, there won't be any weld lines because it will be one piece and the blueing will look correct through out.

Just an idea.

I'm told Nitre blue will likely reveal the weld as I believe carbona blue would as well. Also, hot salt blue will reveal the weld almost for sure. Rust blue will hide the weld pretty well from my experience.

If there's a replica guard available, that would be the best way to go if original finishing is going to be used.

I believe you'll have good blue match with a piece of mild steel (SAE 1018 or 1020)
