I've used a variety of goose calls for 40 years and was, in a reasonable period of time, proficent with all of them. Then I got the bright idea that I should try a short reed call. It took 6 months of daily practice (to and from work in the privacy of my truck) just to get a consistent honk out of the dang thing. If that's what you're working with, check out Field Hudnalls instructions on You Tube. It ain't magic but it will help.

As any waterfowler will attest to they probably have at least 6, maybe more calls. I started with Ken Martins in the mid to late 60's and still find them to be one of the finest, easiest to master calls out there. Then one day I met this guy named Sean Mann at my local gun club. He had a little table set up and was blowing his "new" Shoreman call. I'm not that easily impressed with things like that but after trying that call I ordered one on the spot in the fancy wood I had never heard of..... cocobola. Well that was 1990 or so and it has been my go to call since. I never cared for the Super Shorty but it is a fine call. I just use my Martins when I want a softer, close in finisher call. I am surprised you are having a problem with your Shoreman. Maybe we can meet up at a local shoot or someplace like Hausmann's to figure it out.

I got DVD's for both calls and watch/use them when I try to learn the process . Course I've only tried about 6 times to be honest . You know I may very well have been at your club for a shoot before . Went to Ann Arunndal a couple times to shoot trap , been to the National Capitol at the old Damascus location for the North South skeet shoot and the Westy Hogan trap shoot . Ben to Loch Raven a couple times . Been by the club in Talbot but never shot there . |

Let me know when you are in this area. I shoot at Prince George's T&S usually once a month on a Sun. and that might be closer for you. The key is air control- brought up from your diaphragm.

The best goose call I ever heard is what ever my older son uses. When he says come here they come. I haven't a clue what brand of call he uses. Apparently when I blow the same call it is in Spanish as the geese suddenly remember they have an urgent appointment in Mexico and immediately head that way.
