Default Restore or not?

Have 12 ga. Trojan 187xxx w/2 bbls - sk/sk 26" beavertail & m/f 30" splinter. Bbls mirror, action tight. Two questions: present value? Worth restoring? Thanks, JR

could you post some pictures?

what is the current condition. Is it a family piece? A full restoration of a 12 bore Trojan may not be cost effective. Value without a gun in hand is difficult, value from a minimal description is impossible

Default Restore or not Trojan

Rick, Thanks. Gun is mechanically perfect. No case hardening visible on action. Barrels 75% Stock 75% evenly worn. Trumbull lists full restoration for Parker w single set of barrels at $3600. Paid $900 for it. I suspect you're right that a restoration would not generate a good return on investment.

John:
If BOTH sets of barrels are numbered to this gun, it does have some value. But only if it's not "restored". At 75%, I'd highly recommend that you not touch it. And... if those barrels have the same serial number, you have a RARE collector piece. Few Trojans were made up with two sets of barrels.

Default Restore or not

Kensal,

No numbers on barrels but numbers on both forearm irons match. Shotgun stays as is.

Many thanks,

John

Sounds like a good fiscal decision. You should still post pics. Would like to see them.

I would suggest the beavertail forend might not be original and likewise the 26" barrels but you say that the serial number on both forend irons matches so who can say? We would like to see some some good quality pictures.

The serial number should be stamped into the side of the barrel lug. There's got to be a serial number on at least one set of barrels.

Are there any Remington codes on the barrel flats?

If it works and no issues, it sounds like you got a good buy. Sounds like a great gun to shoot

Yep. Both sets of barrels have same number. Lovely gun to shoot.
