Default CH from NY

I have posted pictures of my CH before but got looking at my letter and decided to do a little research on G. H. Pumpelly using Bill's previously recommended web site la84. It seems Mr. Pumpelly was a armature trap shooter from western NY.

New York Shooters" Have a Fine Day at
the Traps.
Skaneateles Junction, N. Y., May 15. The
tournament of the Glenside Gun Club was
a success although the rainy weather in
the morning prevented a larger attendance.
H. W. Smith and C. S. Cottle, both mem
bers of the club, tied for first place. G.
H. Pumpelly, of Oswego, was second; C. L.
Frantz, of Seneca Falls, and B. G. Wheeler,
or Martinİs, third. In event 6, merchandise,
Mr. Cottle won the Ithaca gun; Mr. Wilcox,
of Rome, the hunting coat, and Mr. Stevens,
of Syracuse, the jacket. Mr. J. A. K. Elliott,
the Winchester expert, was jsent just
nicely convalescent from an s, and the
weather was so bad that he o t attempt
to shoot. Mr. Briggs, of the "V. -uchester Re
peating Arms Co., was present. He has
many friends in this locality. Scores:

Thanks Rick, the year was 1908 and that would be my guess. He is listed in Sporting Life 4 different times up to 1913.

That is a interesting letter. The owner was very specific in what he wanted. Was the saftey missing when you got it?

When I bought it the safety was in it and it showed a lot of use. I had a new top tang screw fitted ...the one pictured and sent it out to be engraved by Noelle Feucht and it was pilfered by one of our USPS employees. Scott K recently gave me a Trojan screw which fits as well as the one pictured so I'll give it another shot.
