I've never seen one of those before Gary.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that appears to be an aftermarket ventilated rib... maybe the folks who installed the rib had a reason for the pin.

Please accept my apologies if it is an original Parker Bros. ventilated rib.

Best, Dean

Is there a pin in the top of the rib directly over that little pin? Maybe it's a cross pin that holds a long vertical pin that holds the rib??? Sounds unnecessary but figured I'd toss it out there.

Is the pin retaining a hardened insert? The aft surface of the lug bears against the forend iron to keep it tight against the receiver. Maybe the insert is replaceable to maintain the tightness(?)

Roll pins are hardened and slotted. They are normally used to secure an insert. Maybe Richard's suggestion is correct in that it secures a lug that is attached to the rib bottom? Bob

Parker never used any sort of a hardened plate on the forend loop of their barrels. Who knows what the pin on these barrels is for.

When it comes to Parkers I've learned to never say never. That's one killer straight grip D Gary. What happened to the hammers, did they fall off?
Best wishes to Megan.
