What is this?

Guys I have not seen this before can any one tell me what the pin is for in the barrel for end lug? Gary
|
I've never seen one of those before Gary.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that appears to be an aftermarket ventilated rib... maybe the folks who installed the rib had a reason for the pin. Please accept my apologies if it is an original Parker Bros. ventilated rib. Best, Dean |
Is there a pin in the top of the rib directly over that little pin? Maybe it's a cross pin that holds a long vertical pin that holds the rib??? Sounds unnecessary but figured I'd toss it out there.

i have seen this on a single barrel spanish made gun...oly function i seen on it was helping hold forearm on....charlie

Holy Smokes.... That gun has 34" Titanic Steel barrels and a straight grip!!
|
Is the pin retaining a hardened insert? The aft surface of the lug bears against the forend iron to keep it tight against the receiver. Maybe the insert is replaceable to maintain the tightness(?)

It is a slotted pin sorry I do not have a camera with me, I am in Wilmington N.C. Megan had some surgery on Thursday, be back home late next week, Dean you are right 34" straight grip D grade, Gary

Roll pins are hardened and slotted. They are normally used to secure an insert. Maybe Richard's suggestion is correct in that it secures a lug that is attached to the rib bottom? Bob
|
Parker never used any sort of a hardened plate on the forend loop of their barrels. Who knows what the pin on these barrels is for.
