I saw that set at the southern last year and did appreciate the last sentence of the letter.

I saw the ad for this set yesterday and thought the same thing about the case. I can't remember ever seeing a repro two-gun case like this one.
Definitely a one-of-a-kind special ordered unique set of guns any way you look at them. I just hope a member got them & they're in good hands. |

We've discussed Driven Bird pairs in this forum before, the most recent discussion of this particular pair, 12-1312 & 12-1313, occurred back in 2022 -- scroll down to post #15 for pics; as you can see they were offered in separate cases.

The case change is odd. I can see it happening the other way around but not this way?

I received the driven bird pair that was bought for a client of mine. Both guns past my inspection for mechanics, overall condition and the maker case that is 100% correct. This is a nice pair of guns that show some normal use, and I would grade them a 90 to 95%. The guns will be in good hands, the gentleman who bought this set plans it to be a centerpiece for an ongoing Skuse's Parker gun display and collection. He is located in SD, and I was invited to hunt his private pheasant preserve this past season and I may have influenced his head man with my double guns that I had with me for the hunting. Most of the hunters I saw shot auto-s. During one of the hunts, I wanted to handle my young English Ryman setter find and work a bird. so, I handed my CSMC Fox XE-spl. 16 to Dave. He was reluctant but I insisted and off I went with Daisy. We had a wonderful cat and mouse show then a solid point. I walked in and flushed a mature wild rooster and Dave put it down with one shot, he had a smile you could not slap off his face. After the hunt was over, that's all he talked about, that big rooster and the Fox SxS. Tom the owner herd the story and got to handle my Fox gun with smiles. I did not think much about it at the time. After getting home some weeks passed and I was asked to look for a full set of Weatherby rifles for Tom's gun room. Tom likes fine guns, nice wood and wants a collection that turns heads. It was only natural that he should have some fine doubles for his gun room display. Me and Dave only hinted at the Idea....This Skuse matched pair is the start, and he would like a few more for his gun room so if you know of any PR that are really special let me know. Also, Dave asked me if there would be any interest in a SXS only hunt. I said hell ya. To be held at Scattergun lodge in Pier SD this fall. We need 15 hunters minimum but have room for double that number or more. PM me if you want more info and google Scattergun lodge to see the facility.
