A friend gave me the wood off his DH 16. It's the same vintage as your's, same checkering, with straight grip. I fixed the cracked stock and fit it to my VH20. The checkering is almost gone. I'll recut it when I have time. I do like the full coverage on the forend. I wish mine was as nice looking as yours! I'd like to see more pics of your gun....!

There is a lot to like right there in that gun.
I am pretty sure in saying that a full cover checkering job on a forend was not really standard on any grade, but it is seen way more often on higher grades. On some BS but more on A and AA. I have seen a few other examples of Ds special ordered with it, like this one was.
