Fully checkered forend...
 

I’m sure this topic has been addressed previously but I just acquired a nice 12 ga DH with a Straight Grip and Fully Checkered forend.

Thought it was kind of nice. I know they are common on higher grades but haven’t seen to much on lower and mid level guns. Shipped to San Francisco in 1899....returned 121 yrs later.

It is documented in a research letter as “fully checkered tip”

Yours is only the third DH I have ever seen with a fully checkered tip.

A friend gave me the wood off his DH 16. It's the same vintage as your's, same checkering, with straight grip. I fixed the cracked stock and fit it to my VH20. The checkering is almost gone. I'll recut it when I have time. I do like the full coverage on the forend. I wish mine was as nice looking as yours! I'd like to see more pics of your gun....!

There is a lot to like right there in that gun.
I am pretty sure in saying that a full cover checkering job on a forend was not really standard on any grade, but it is seen way more often on higher grades. On some BS but more on A and AA.
I have seen a few other examples of Ds special ordered with it, like this one was.
