Richard, there's nothing stupid about your post and I think your second post expressed the same thoughts many of us were having. Personally, I think that kind of finish would be too permanent and would seal over the screws and possibly diminish the beauty of the engraving.

My buddy got his stevens 44 1/2 tiger striped case collored and it has a coat of something on it and it looks great I'll talk to him soon. I't doesnt have any engraving though. I'll get a picture of it next time i am at dodge. I need an excuse to go to dodge anyway. ch
