Does the water table on the frame have any markings? If so, a picture of those would help. Fred.

It has the serial number, an oval with RG in the middle of it, and it has the Crown Symbol over PT indicating it was made for smokeless powder. I've been told that more information could be on the wood under the butt plate. However, the screws that hold it on are engraved and timed perfectly so I'm not removing them. I'm thinking it was made before WW2 and the RG could be the makers initials. The gun is very very tight, it functions perfectly and the quality rivals anything I have in the safe. So, It still remains a mystery.

Hi Casey, I looked up the marks in the Directory of Proof Marks by Wirnsberger but it seems to verify what you have already stated. Sorry could not be more of a help. Andy

Thanks Andy,
I had done quite a bit of research before I asked on this forum. Like Mr. Hamner stated earlier, the French guns are a little hard to research. I've seen a couple that look similar at a glance but when you get close up, there's always something a little different. We'll just have to keep looking. I appreciate the feedback. |
