Default late afternoon corn field

I took Susie out for a while yesterday afternoon for a fling at a few late season, northern migrants. There was a 20 mph wind, steady from the west, and it made for some sporty shooting.

Susie is a Field Grade L C Smith 16 ga. with 32" barrels. She was ordered with, and has, ejectors, a HOT, X-full chokes and a long LOP. This combination, while most unusual for a Field Grade gun, is might near perfect for late season, wind-whipped doves.

The perfect gun for you, but I’ll wager your .410s are unhappy staying home.

They grumbled some, Garry, but they got worked during the early season. I'm planning one more outing with the 30" Dickinson in a peanut field before the end of the season.

All of our late season doves left with the snow. I was greatly disappointed to lose the last week of our season which goes out today. Glad you killed them for abandoning us.

We've got until the end of the month to hunt doves. I hope to get two or three more shoots in by then.

I have not been on a good late season dove hunt in a long time. After the first few weeks in September, it’s mostly all over down here on the coast. Of course, it is quail season so I can’t complain
