late afternoon corn field
I took Susie out for a while yesterday afternoon for a fling at a few late season, northern migrants. There was a 20 mph wind, steady from the west, and it made for some sporty shooting.
Susie is a Field Grade L C Smith 16 ga. with 32" barrels. She was ordered with, and has, ejectors, a HOT, X-full chokes and a long LOP. This combination, while most unusual for a Field Grade gun, is might near perfect for late season, wind-whipped doves. https://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/71595_800x600.jpg |
Another few poses by sexy Susie ........

The perfect gun for you, but I’ll wager your .410s are unhappy staying home. :)

They grumbled some, Garry, but they got worked during the early season. I'm planning one more outing with the 30" Dickinson in a peanut field before the end of the season.

All of our late season doves left with the snow. I was greatly disappointed to lose the last week of our season which goes out today. Glad you killed them for abandoning us.
|
We've got until the end of the month to hunt doves. I hope to get two or three more shoots in by then.

I have not been on a good late season dove hunt in a long time. After the first few weeks in September, it’s mostly all over down here on the coast. Of course, it is quail season so I can’t complain

Mills are you finding many wild quail.?

No wild quail. All of ours are released
