DHBP
Have some questions on DHBP's. On earlier guns the DHBP have a spur that fits into the heel of the stock.(this really looks good to me ). When did Parker stop using them ? I have noticed that the Remington Parkers do not have them. Lately I looked at some guns made in the mid to late 1920's with a DHBP without the spur. Some one clue me in. Was there certain time they stopped using the spur ? thanks Dan

I have not been able to determine a deffinate date, but it is sometime in the mid '20s or so. Guns in 1928 did not have them, I can say that for sure.
They eliminated the spur, but the stocks still had a curve in them. And the buttplate screws were changed to a simpler style with a domed head. Everything else about the buttplates were the same. |
Thank you. You hit the nail on the head. the gun I was looking at a gun made in 1928. the DHBP screws had a domed head. Dan

I think it was a little hit or miss in the later half of the 1920s. I have a damascus 12 gauge GH, serialed 220657 that has the peaked buttplate and engraved, flat screws. I also have a 12 gauge VH, serialed 217607 with the unpeaked buttplate and round headed screws. Based on that little sample, between 1926 and 1928.

As with any Parker change. There is overlap. I have owned only a few Parkers from the 1920s, so I have not been able the get a good sampling to be able to try and narrow the year down. |
There was no particular year. As stated - "There is overlap."
Certainly Parker Bros.' supply of the spurred 'old style' of the various sizes and styles of DHBP's was exhausted at different times and Parker Bros. (being the frugal business that they were) wouldn't start using the 'new style' flat DHBP's until the last of the 'old style' was gone. . |
