Rich, a 0-frame 28 ga is most likely what it is... a 20 gauge frame with 28 gauge barrels. That's how the early 28's were made.

A few weeks ago I made a post referencing a DH my father purchased years back - about 20-25yrs ago. Damascus barrels were sleeved and the damascus roll stamp was sanded off and replaced with "titanic." In addition - the tubes on the gun are 25"
If you compare the pictures of the DH with this GH 28 on gunbroker I am almost certain they were done by the same smith - the case color is very similar and the "forging" of the steel name is very, very similar. As stated above - both were sleeved to 25" total barrel length. I am not going to comment on value - but if it means anything, the smith work on my dads DH is quite solid (even if the CC is not right) and the gun is a good shooter. |
serialization book says D2 Capped pg no extras 28 ga. 28" long

Jim has reminded us that the gun was an ORIGINAL factory 28 gauge before being sawed off. Jim mentioned that in his first post. The faked up rib marking is in the Parker style, but way less than perfect, as all such faked up markings were. The only perfect marking I have ever seen is on my sleeved magnum ten gauge Parker DH. That marking now reads "Lefever Steel". If the same craftsman had instead marked it "Titanic Steel", it would have been hard to distinguish from original.
