Charlie ,Yep she's a CHE 20 Ga. ,I like hunting in the Snow Also,as long as it's not too deep ! I carried a 20 ga. Browning BSS Sporter SxS for years ,well from around 1980 to the Mid 2000's when I got interested in these old Parkers , Interested ??? can we say ,I could finally afford one :rotf: !! I still carry it once in a while ,it's one of those guns you just can't seem to miss with !Also it has about the nicest piece of wood that I have seen on one also has a small Beaver Tail Forend that feels good in hand , just a nice middle of the road kind of gun ! Russ;
Why don't you post some pics of you BSS 20? I've got a couple of them and feel they are a quality gun at a great price for what you get. Nice grouse.

It's nice to get out on a winter day and bird hunt. Our regular season has closed but the perserves are open and on a fresh snow tracking Mr. Pheasant is a lot of fun.

Went bunny hunting yesterday, no Parker involved just some Beagles and a Ruger 10/22.

Hi Kenny ,WE are probably fairly close I have never had a reason to head to New Castle ,but it shouldn't be more than 100 Miles to your shop one way ,I am about 60 Miles East of Pittsburgh ,Now for the " SECRET GROUSE SPOT " ,I didn't know any one actually devulged that type of information ,but it could get discussed when we are making a deal on one of those Beautiful Parker Repros you have !:rotf: ! Best ; Russ

I looked but couldn't find any close ups so I just ran out and took a couple real quick ,so ,they are not the best ! I agree ,on the BSS ,I bought mine new around 1980 and just fell in Love with it as soon as I started shooting it , I should knock on wood but I carried no other gun for the better side of 25 years and it has been trouble free ! I have a small chip at the toe of the stock where one of my old Hunting Dogs ,put his front poaws up on my gun cleaning bench and knocked it to the floor and it just took out a small chip ! I have another NOS Butt Plate but never put it on yet !

For a modern SXS the BSS is a hard one to beat.

Thanks Russ, that's a knockout piece of wood on it. I waterfowl hunted with mine after they mandated steel shot for the better part of 20yrs. and also have never had a problem with it. Mine is also a straight stock with a beavertail and I truly love shooting it. It's my foul weather gun. The Parkers and Foxes only come out on nice days.

Russ;
I agree with the age/wisdom thing. Unfortunately ducks and geese like the rainy days. So do my labs who somehow manage to deposit most of the marsh mud on my gun. Does'nt bother me too much with the BSS but with my finer guns I tend to take offense to the muddy mess.

When it's raining I leave the Parkers in the safe and take the Holland & Holland:biglaugh::biglaugh:

For those that own DH/Grade 3 and higher safe queens a sloppy day or rough times in the duck boat are perfect for the ol' worn Grade VH or GH. Those guns need love too! Heck, if your AH could talk it would call you a SOB for leaving it in the safe on any hunting day!

Makes sense to me. Is'nt it raining most of the time in England? They should be used to it.:rolleyes:

My first hunting trip with the H&H was in a pouring down rain. I don;t have an A grade to leave in the safe...yet. Friday might be a different story we will have to wait and see. It won't stay in the safe however thats for sure:nono:

not a Parker story - but

During the short time I lived in PA, a shooting friend from a NY shotgun zone wanted to come down and get the chance to hunt with one of his rifles. I had access to hunt two connecting farms that ajoined my property, but I am not a big deer hunter and at that time did not own a rifle. No problem he said he would bring a extra for me. So on the wettest day I have ever gone afield in (we went back to the house to change and run stuff through the dryer twice) he loaned me a low two digit ( 3x ) serial number Winchester model 70 in 30-06.

I said, you can't be serious about my taking this collecter's piece out in this weather, but he said that was what it was made for.

I'm envious. I live in Northcentral PA and we have too much snow for this old guy to navigate. Supposed to warm up this week though and am hoping it knocks the snow down to a manageable level.

My son recently purchased a 20 ga BSS with 28 inch barrels and factory choked skeet/skeet with a non selective trigger which makes it one of the earlier guns. He shoots it really well and I've shot it at clays some. Still prefer my parker repro but it is a nice gun with an unusual configuration.

21086My friend and I took two UVA students on their first duck hunt. Had a great day.
I took the old DHE 12ga with RST nice shot 4s.
There are two Mallard Hens and two lesser geese under the D grade.

Russ,
What a beautiful Parker. I dont believe I have ever seen a C grade in person. Working 'til noon today, brought my VH 16 , and my setters, Betty and Shiner, to work and planned on hitting the grouse covers this afternoon--but now it is raining and I hate hunting in the cold rain, pushing the the dripping brush in about 5" of old snow. I almost grabbed my VH 20 with 26" cyl/mod , but it will have to wait for a nicer day.
Big gun show in Washington, Pa this weekend, if its raining I might have to go and look around.
