Took another walk down to my pasture and this thing flew over. My young lab didn't know what to make of it and I didn't require her to try lifting it. She drug it a ways but I had her quit trying. They seem to be extra large around here. Notice the jewelry. It was an adult when banded in 2006. Looks like jerkey to me. Love that 32 inch gun. Bird was pretty high and dead in the air.
Jake is trying to get in his licks as well. Tomorrow I try for ducks.

That's quite a goose for certain. Did you weigh it? The heaviest one I ever saw, my father and doubled down on years ago. It weighed just over 19 pounds on a legal scale. There was one mounted in a restaurant down at home that supposedly weighed 22 pounds when killed.
Oldest band I ever shot had been on the goose 11 years and it had been banded as an adult. Friends father killed one that had been on the goose 26 years as amazing as that sounds.

Someone gave me a bird with a 5 foot wingspan. That bird was so tough you couldn't cut the gravy with a knife

Didn't weigh it but will try. It is real big true and for certain.
OK, using the bathroom scale and subtracting my my tare weight, it is about 15lbs. If you'll recall, I showed another one like this last year next to my Johnsons (decoys). Ducks were OK this AM.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that other monster you posted pics of.
Fifteen pounds is huge, I've only ever seen a handful in that range.
No luck on the ducks so far for me, what water I can find is too far from cover to do me any good. And I'm not seeing many ducks anyway.
Could be my next duck shoot will be with Densmore out of the layout boats.

Man I love daschunds. That picture is a keeper. Mine has bagged a few rats that were around the neighborhood, which is pretty impressive as he is not much larger then them.

Yes, he is actually my wife's dog and is a mini as well, however he doesn't know he's small. Their personalities are something else. Kind of like a cat in that you don't own them, they own you!
Check out this picture and let me know if you think he's spoiled.
Sorry he isn't a Parker but he has been around them.

Charlie,
In captivity a goose can live 50 plus years. I don't know what the record is on years banded but I'll bet it's over 30.

Nice goose! Huge. I think the record weight for a Canadian is 24# if I remember correctly.

The down side to these large geese (not feather down) is they are like eating rubber. It seems every goose we get around here is enormous and old to boot. Jerkey is what they are best for. I used to be in the Northern part of the state where we got all sizes of canadas. One day I got 4 different sub spp all in ascending sizes. The smaller ones are superior eating in my book and great for roasting. Seems like we seldom come up with a young one in this region and they do get hunted quite a bit. Perhaps they are hatched full grown.
