I purchased my first Parker last year with the information and input from all the knowledgeable members on this forum.

Recently purchased this Parker. It is a 20ga, 26 inch titanic barrels & straight stock.

I took it to Nick Makinson and he measured the barrels for me.

Bore Diameter: .617 in both
Chokes: Right - SKT2 .010, Left .025 Full
Barrel thickness minimum left : .025
Barrel thickness minimum right : .023
Very nice bore no pits etc.

Left barrel where it is .023, the thickness is .028 to .029 towards the rib on top but when it goes around it goes down to .023 at 6 o'clock 7 o'clock near the bottom rib. Nick told me that this is an ultra light gun and that was how the barrels were struck and nobody has done anything to the insides of the barrel like honing, back-boring etc...

He examined and told me not to worry about the thickness but to take care not to knock it around as it could get dents and to use appropriate loads.

The barrel weight is 2lb 14oz on the barrel flats so I am sure it started as a light gun.

Any opinions will be highly appreciated. The Mershon white-line recoil pad will have to go, any suggestions?.

Thanks

Herb ,That is a beauty ! I would have to do something with the pad if it were mine ,it's way too long for me , your gun is beautiful ,CONGRATULATIONS ! These D Grade twenties are great guns ,I have called on two seperate dealers in the past that had a really nice straight grip DHE 20 Ga. advertised ,after talking with the first one ,I ended up buying a DH Grade 28 Ga. he just got in and the second time I found one , during the conversation the Gentleman ask if I had seen the CHE 20 he just listed and ,I ended up with a CHE 20 ," Just couldn't pass it up " and yet after all of these years I still haven't got my D Grade 20 Ga. ,Well ,it leaves something really special to look forward to ! Great Gun ! Enjoy !!!!!!! Russ

Thanks everyone.

Is it common to see a weight of 2lb 14oz on a 0 frame 20 ga.

My other gun (http://www.parkerguns.org/forums/showthread.php?t=3896) 16ga on 0 frame has a barrel weight of 3lb 1 oz

You got a couple of great guns to carry in the field. You did mention the weight in first thread I just need to read more carefully. I got a heavy ol 10 that I need to trade but I always liked the big girls as well :rotf:

I put an original No Shoc on my DHE 20. It is the right size and look for the gun. Galazan sells a nice repro of the No Shoc.

IMO, any pad on a light 20 looks odd. At 15", why not just take it off and have a nice skeleton iron put on and have the butt properly checkered? Probably left the factory like that. It is a beautiful gun.

Is skeleton butt plates available.

Or save the expense of fitting and finishing a skeleton buttplate and have someone with the skill, like Dave Trevallion, fit a leather covered pad. That would definitely be my second choice and way above a leather faced pad.

You could ask Tony Galazan at CSMC if he has an original. I'm pretty sure he can find a repro easily enough, but originals are out there. I had one for a #1, and I recall seeing an 0 somewhere too. I think someone mention Parker Repro parts around too, but I think the heel is more rounded than the original; at least that's the way I have felt each time I've looked at a repro.

That would be the issue. Repro plates and Galazan plates are available in the correct 0 frame stock size. However, those plates are thinner than original Parker plates. It may be possible to find a correct 0 frame original Parker plate but you might have to look hard for one.

Walter Eiserer, who worked for Gary Herman for years, before he moved up to Salt Point, NY, does the nicest pigskin (and other leathers) full pads I have ever seen. He's pretty much retired but still does work for Charles at Brit. Sporting Arms.

Dean makes a good point, in that a full covered pad does look real good on a straight stock, but installing a skeleton iron only requires inleting at the heel and the iron is scribed to the stock and finished. A good stock guy who also works in metal can do this without any sanding or refinishing of the side of the stock. Walter did one of these for my dad, many years ago, on a gun that had a piece added with a rubber pad. (The previous owner must have been a gorilla, as it was 15.5" long.)

I never heard of this guy, but I'm not even sure what my next-door neighbor's name is either. Maybe you could get one made in plain steel.

That is Glenn Fewless, a forum member and poster here. Glenn will make a skeleton butt plate of damascus sheet metal or he will make a Parker correct butt plate to size of mild steel. I've posted photos of Glen's work here before, including his butt plates , and he is a friend of Doug Mann the stockist.

Glenn may be contacted through the member's list.

Or you can just buy that damascus skeleton butt plate listed on Gunbroker.com directly from me as I'm the one that has it listed. How many of your neighbor's have a damascus skeleton butt plate for sale? :)

I doubt any of my neighbors even own a gun, this old cow town has turned into a haven for left wingers.
