My son Jeremy shot his first turkey this morning out at our Ohio farm. No, not a sxs but using a gun that I
worked and saved for when I was in high school in the 70's, an 870 Wingmaster. Was much impressed with the #9 TSS. Worked a second bird but couldn't get it to come in.
Jeremy's bird was a big mature bird with 1 1/8" spurs but had a 1 inch beard that was brown on the ends---mites or fungus? Jeremy wasn't too upset. Now it's my turn, passed up a Jake yesterday in WV.

Beard rot? I don't eat that part anyway.

Congratulations to the hunter and the father of the hunter. You’re a lucky man, Harold, but I’m sure you know that.

After calling in one for my son's first turkey, l have been so close to closing the deal 5 times, but finally got to pull the trigger today. So yes, there will be smoked turkey again this year at Hausmann's, stop over.

No, not a Parker, but that old 870 has a lot of sentimental value to me. I did take one with a grade 2 hammer 12 last year. I do prefer the 870 for turkeys and once again the TSS 9sflattened the bird at 38 yds just as it was disappearing over the rise.
I want to take my next turkey with the old Greener hammer gun. I u

My favorite hunt decades ago was a 20yd shot with a Pedorsoli 10 ga. Percussion SxS. 21lb 1-1/8" spurs. 1-5/8 oz of copper plated 5 shot and equal amount of ffg by volume. . 4 overshot cards over powder and 1 overshot card over shot. I found that using the thick fiberwads blew donut holes in center of pattern.
